Jose Stigliano, PhD, is a molecular biologist trained at the University of Buenos Aires andCONICET in the laboratory of Alberto R. Kornblihtt. His research has focused on alternativesplicing and RNA therapeutics, especially splice-switching antisense oligonucleotides in spinalmuscular atrophy. This work was shaped not only by mechanistic RNA biology but also by theurgency brought forward bypatient advocacy groups including Familias AME Argentina andCure SMA. He contributed to a Cell paper showing that a therapeutic ASO can influencechromatin and transcription across its target gene, and he is currently leading a first-author studyon how an SMN2 splicing-correcting ASO promotes gene looping. He now works in industry inArgentina while maintaining active academic collaborations and a strong commitment tobringing RNA mechanism closer to therapeutic impact.
